As with all things new, there are major adjustments to make. Like every new technological advancement, profound changes will follow. Much like the advent of the "motor car", AI is bringing about fundamental changes to our global society. 

For example, when the car was invented, many believed it would never take over and that horses would never be substituted as the main way of transportation. Yet, with the advent of cars, horses quickly disappeared as the principal means of transportation. The side effect was widespread and even had an effect on the economy where some economists claim it was one of the factors that contributed to the Great Depression. Many professions dependent on horses began to disappear, such as coachees, stable hands or masters, the feed industry for horses and many others. The farming industry was hit big time with this also where 50% of the grain produced in the USA at the time was consumed by horses. Cars changed all that. We can say that it was quite disruptive and very painful.

Using the substitution of cars over horses as an example is quite extreme, but, I think it is a very visual and concrete way of exemplifying technological disruption.

Now to the IT part. Technological change is a constant in our culture. It brings about disruption which is also painful and causes serious side effects. We're just used to it and have learned to adapt better. So, with the rise of AI, it is groundbreaking, but, in a sense we are used to this kind of upheavel now. 

The point here is that AI did not pop up out of nothing. The models are trained on our past. This is important. AI cannot create, only innovate. With that in mind, we, the creators of AI, are still superior in that we can really think in a way machines cannot. We have arms, legs, lungs, teeth, tongues, muscles and a lot more than any machine. We have skills. 

The changes AI brings about are not that dramatic as the automobile revolution, but, it may bring about some serious side effects in a slighly longer timetable. Since we are dealing with information technology, the changes are first internal in humans, and the effects will become visible much later. The problem is when we begin delegating thinking and skills to these machines. We have skills and abilities that these machines don't have, and never will. AI is a tool. 

We are not tools. We can focus on some very physical, cognitive and human-centric habits (skills). These are things that AIs cannot do.
